Originally developed for military use by USMC snipers, reticle ranging is a concept whereby the shooter determines the "mil-dot height" within the scope's reticle of a distant object with a known or estimable size. By utilizing these measurements, the distance to the target can be approximated through straightforward mathematical calculations.
